200 illegal firearms taken off KZN streets

Just over 200 illegal firearms have been removed from the streets of KZN.

This is according to the SAPS - which says it seized these weapons during month-long operations between last month and this month.


It says over 13 000 rounds of ammunition were also confiscated.


Provincial Commissioner Khombinkosi Jula says 219 suspects were arrested for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

"The firearms that were recovered included 165 pistols, it also included  13 shotguns, 10 rifles, 13 homemade firearms," he says. 


Jula adds, "The arrested suspects have appeared in various Magistrates Courts across the province whilst investigations are ongoing."
