Two Durban policemen have been hospitalised, after they came under attack from members of the Shallcross community during an operation yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele says officers from the K9 Unit were conducting the operation in Taurus Street, when they were attacked by a group of about 200 people.
"Members were conducting an operation in Taurus Street, in Shallcross, when they were allegedly attacked by a group of about 200 community members. Police officers were assaulted and a rifle was stolen," she says, "Public Order Police, the National Intervention Unit and the Airwing as well as the Chatsworth police were at the scene. Paramedics were also denied access by the unruly crowd. A case of robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and obstructing police officers, was opened".
Mbele says the stolen firearm was eventually recovered and that two suspects were arrested.
