19 injured in Durban CBD crash
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Nineteen people have been hurt when a taxi and two cars were involved in a collision at the intersection of Alice Street and Russell Street in the Durban CBD, yesterday afternoon.
The impact of the crash was so severe that the taxi veered off the road before hitting a pole on the side of the road. Rescue Care emergency services were among those who responded to the accident. One passenger was found to have still been stuck in the taxi which was fully loaded.
The service's Garrith Jamieson says Jaws of Life had to be used to free him.
"On assessment paramedics found that one of the passengers in the taxi was still trapped and Jaws of Life had to be used to free them. Once freed all the patients were stabilized on scene before being transported to various hospitals in Durban for the further care that they required," he said.
"At this stage the exact cause of collision is unknown, however SAPS were in attendance and will be investigating further," Jamieson said.
