18 hurt in Mariannhill multi-vehicle crash
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Eighteen people have been hurt after a collision involving five vehicles on the M1 in the Mariannhill area, near Pinetown, this morning.
It's not clear at this point what caused the two taxis and three bakkies to collide causing one of the taxis to catch alight.
ER 24's Russel Meiring says five people were critically hurt, including a taxi driver who sustained burn wounds.
" One of the critically injured patients was the driver of the taxi who sustained severe burns over his entire body. Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.
"It is understood that some of the bystanders that have witnessed the collision began pulling occupants from the vehicle and began extinguishing the fire. Local authorities are no scene for further investigations," he said.
