Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Police Minister Bheki Cele says the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Political Killings in KwaZulu-Natal has made significant progress since its appointment by the president last year.

He says out of 163 case dockets, 52 have been finalised and 161 arrests have been made. Cele was speaking at a press briefing at the SAPS Provincial Headquarters in Durban earlier.
The briefing follows several recent high profile arrests in connection with the murders of former ANC Youth League secretary-general, Sindiso Magaqa and eMalahleni ANC Youth League leader, Wandile Ngubeni.
Harry Gwala District mayor, Mluleki Ndobe had the charges against him provisionally withdrawn in the Magaqa case.
Newcastle mayor, Nthuthuko Mahlaba was remanded in custody on Monday after appearing in court over his alleged involvement in Ngubeni's killing in 2016.
