16 Days: 'More action needed’ to combat GBV, says Amnesty International
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
Amnesty International says by failing to act on gender-based violence, government and the police are violating citizens' rights to safety, life and dignity.
This comes as the 16 Days of Activism campaign against GBV was launched on Friday.
The programme is bringing into focus the devastating impact that GBV and femicide has on women and children.

"The state has an obligation to protect people's right to life and security and we are not seeing this obligation realised," says the organisation's Shenilla Mohamed.
"Enough is enough, more action is needed and it is needed now. The lack of reporting of cases is a clear sign that there is a lack of trust in the police and more needs to be done to improve on policing in general in this country so that everyone can feel safe."
