Several private ambulance services, SAPS Search and Rescue, Metro Police and the Fire Department were all part of the strenuous rescue and recovery operation that lasted about eight hours.
Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says it was near impossible getting to the wreckage.
"Paramedics had to walk approximately two kilometres down the mountain to the crash site. Once there they found multiple patients who had been ejected from the taxi as it rolled down."
"Despite Advanced Life Support Paramedics intervention due to the severity of their injuries six occupants had sustained major injuries and passed away at the scene," he said.
Five people were killed in a minibus crash on the N2 in Mtubatuba, north of the province on Saturday night.
In a separate crash, two people died in a collision in Mooi River when two cars collided.
