15 killed in Eastern Cape collision

All 15 minibus taxi passengers were killed when it collided with a truck on the N9 near Middelburg late last night.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department says the accident happened at around 11 pm when a heavy-duty truck driver allegedly hit a stray animal and lost control of the vehicle.
As the truck driver attempted to regain control, the department says its trailer tipped over, smashing into the fully loaded taxi next to it.

All the taxi's occupants, 9 women, 4 men and 2 children, aged 2 and 2 months, died at the scene.
The truck driver escaped unharmed.
