15 children hurt in Durban crash

Some 15 children are recovering this morning after being hurt in a crash in Durban yesterday.

The bakkie they had been travelling in careened off the road along 4th Avenue in Clermont, near Pinetown yesterday.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says the injured children were aged between 5 and 10 years.

Jamieson says no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

"All 15 children sustained minor injuries. More ambulances had to be dispatched to assist," he said.

Once stabilised on scene by paramedics, the children were taken to hospital for further care.

Meanwhile, five other people were hurt in two other separate accidents yesterday.

In Pietermaritzburg, a man and two women were hurt when their vehicle crashed down a steep embankment on the R33 in Copesville.

South of Durban, two cars collided on the N2 near Galleria Mall, leaving two people hurt.

Authorities are still probing the cause of all the accidents.
