14-day deadline set for eThekwini in Uber matter
Metered taxi operators have given the eThekwini Municipality 14 working days to respond to their list of demands.
The operators today marched through the Durban city centre to complain about online taxi hailing service, Uber.
In the memorandum of demands handed over to the city, they say Uber's operations have had a negative impact on the smooth and efficient running of the metered taxi industry.
They're demanding that law enforcement agencies prosecute and impound all Uber cars that do not meet requirements and for a special task team to investigate Uber's anti-competitive pricing.
Desmond Myeza who received the memorandum on behalf of the Transport Department says the memorandum will be given to the MEC.
"We will then await the response from the MEC's office as to what the municipality should do since we are also enforcing the laws against metered taxis as the Municipality. The directive is from the Department of Transport," he said.
