13 suspects in court after Mtubatuba community protest
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
13 suspects, aged between 21 and 56, are facing charges of public violence following a community protest along the R618, north of Richards Bay.
Community members blockaded the R618 highway yesterday with burning tyres, and trees over issues of water supply to the Macibini residential area.
Police say the demonstrators allegedly ordered a truck to offload coal in the middle of the road, and proceeded to damage the vehicle.
The R618, in Mtubatuba, was closed entirely to traffic yesterday.
