10th BRICS summit gets underway

More than a thousand delegates from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are gathering in Sandton today for the BRICS Business Forum.

The forum is part of the 10th BRICS summit that runs until Friday in Johannesburg. 

Delegates and international media have flocked to South Africa for the summit. 

The Heads of State of the five BRICS nations are expected to preside over the afternoon session of the Business Forum - providing direction on strategic issues under discussion.

South Africa's Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies says delegates will deliberate on strategic economic matters affecting the future of BRICS. 

Government leaders, heads of state-owned enterprises and captains of industry will attend the event. 

President Cyril Ramaphosa held bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping at the Union Buildings in Pretoria yesterday. 

China has committed to investing 14.7 billion Dollars in South Africa. 

On Tuesday, delegates visited key sites in South Africa's history in KZN including the Nelson Mandela Capture Site outside Howick and the Gandhi Settlement in Phoenix, north of Durban.
