10 arrested in Folweni service delivery protest
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Police have denied allegations they shot a 23-year-old man during yesterday's protests in Folweni, south of Durban.
According to Isolezwe newspaper the man is in a critical condition in hospital.
But KZN police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the SAPS has no knowledge of such an incident as no person was reported shot during the demonstration.
The service delivery protest began yesterday morning.
Gwala says the violence escalated later in the day with a fire station and a school office being set alight while police vehicles were damaged.
"Ten suspects were arrested and charged with public violence. They will appear in court soon. The situation is quiet today - no incidents have been reported and police continue to monitor the area," she said.
