One person has been killed following a head-on crash between a car and a mini-bus taxi along the R617 towards the Mpophomeni area, near the Midmar dam.
According to reports the vehicle was being chased by police moments before the collision. It is believed while attempting to evade authorities the driver lost control and veered onto the opposite lane carrying oncoming traffic.
Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says three others were injured.
"The driver of the car sustained fatal injuries while his passenger sustained severe injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention", he said.
"Two other passengers sustained minor injuries and declined transportation to hospital. SAPS was on scene to investigate", Herbst said.
