1 killed, 20 hurt in Maritzburg, Umkomaas accidents
One person has died while 20 others have been hurt in separate accidents.
One person died while 14 others were hurt when the driver of the construction vehicle they were in somehow lost control.
ER24's Pieter Rossouw says it is not clear what caused the accident.
"When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found that besides the deceased person all the other injuries ranged from minor to moderate. We then treated and transported a total of 8 patients to the Northdale Hospital for further treatment", he said.
"The other patients were transported by other emergency services. The cause of the accident remains unknown but local authorities were on scene for investigations", Rossouw said.
In another unrelated accident, a female passenger is recovering in hospital after she was seriously hurt when the vehicle she was in was rear-ended at the Ashburton Bridge in Pietermaritzburg.
The jaws of life had to be used to free her before she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
On the south coast, five people were injured on the N2 highway in the early hours of this morning.
According to Netcare911 paramedics, their vehicle rolled over at the Magabeni area near Umkomaas.
