1 killed, 17 hurt in Durban crashes
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A man in his 40s has died after his car crashed into a tree while travelling along Bellair Road in Durban in the early hours of this morning.

Details around what caused the vehicle to leave the road are still sketchy at this point. Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says jaws of life had to be used to gain access into the wrecked vehicle in order to reach the man. He says the car had come to rest down an embankment.
The driver, a man in his fourties, was found entrapped in the wreckage. The Durban Fire Department cut the man free, however due to the severity of his injuries he had died before paramedics could arrive. He was declared 'dead' on the scene.
In another accident which the emergency service also responded to 17 people were left hurt following a collision between a car and a taxi along the M1 Higginson Highway, near Chatsworth. The vehicles had collided in a rear-end fashion.
The crash, yesterday, saw those hurt sustain various injuries as various emergency services responded.
All hurt were treated on scene before being taken through to hospital.
