A man has been killed and a woman injured after being hit by a taxi in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24's Russel Meiring says the pair was walking along Campsdrift Road in Pelham on Thursday morning when they were struck.
He says paramedics found them on the side of the road, with the minibus parked a short distance away.

"Medics assessed the patients and found that the man had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life while the woman had sustained moderate injuries."
"Medics immediately began CPR and provided the man with advanced life support interventions. Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned, and the man was declared dead."
"Once the woman had been treated, she was transported to Edendale Provincial Hospital for further care. The driver of the taxi, fortunately, escaped injury," he said.
Meiring says police are investigating.
