1 dead, 13 hurt in Tugela Ferry minibus crash

A woman has been killed and 13 others left injured in a minibus accident in Tugela Ferry, north of Durban.

Reports coming from the scene indicate that the driver of the minibus, lost control and crashed into an embankment on the R33.


KZN EMS spokesperson, Robert McKenzie says the woman, who's believed to be in her 40s was declared dead at the scene. 


"This morning paramedics from KZN emergency medical services responded to the R33 at Tugela Ferry where a minibus left the road and crashed into an embankment.


"Tragically one person sustained fatal injuries in this crash. The woman, aged about 40-years-old, was sadly declared deceased at the scene by paramedics.

"The paramedics treated 13 other patients for serious and critical injuries at the scene before transporting them to the local hospital for continued medical care. 


"The exact circumstances resulting in the crash are not known at this stage and are being investigated by the police," says McKenzie.
