Some polling stations around the country are holding by-elections today.
One hundred and forty-five candidates across seven provinces are contesting in 40 wards.
The Electoral Commission's (IEC) CEO Sy Mamabolo says it's all going smoothly.
"No incidents, all is going well. The party agents are playing their role accordingly. Our staff are cooperating well with the voters as well as with the security."
Seven wards being contested in KwaZulu-Natal.
The ANC KZN spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela says they're looking forward to taking a seat previously held by the DA.
"We got a particular interest of Ward 110 in eThekwini though that Ward is under the DA. It is an area we want to our efforts in ensuring that we take over that Ward as the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal."
The DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers says he's satisfied with the way the day's going.
"We are in it to win it and the more power we give to the ANC in eThekwini, the worse service delivery we will get.
"Their track record when it comes to service delivery in eThekwini and Msunduzi leaves a lot to be desired and the only way we are going to turn it around is by ensuring we get more DA representation."
