Whoopi Goldberg has joined the many people who have aired their opinion about the new 'Barbie' movie.

On Tuesday's episode of 'The View', the multi-award winning actress slammed those who criticised the movie.

“It’s a movie about a doll,” Whoopi said on the show.

She added that the good thing about the movie is that it is not in any way sexual.

“I thought y’all would be happy,” she added.

“[Barbie] has no genitalia, so there’s no sex involved. Ken has no genitalia, so he can’t — it’s a doll movie! And the kids know it’s colourful and it’s Barbie,” she said.

Whoopi said she is shocked by the reaction the movie has been receiving.

“You guys, I want y’all to tell your daughters why you’re not taking them to the Barbie movie. I want you to explain to them what’s wrong with Barbie."

Her comments come after the likes of Elon Musk and columnist Ben Shapiro expressed their disappointment about the movie and called it a "bad" film.

"It you take a shot every time Barbie says the word 'patriarchy', you will pass out before the movie ends," wrote Musk on Twitter.

Shapiro described it as a “flaming garbage heap of a film”.
