It’s been more than seven weeks since Kim Kardashian walked the Met Gala red carpet in Marilyn Monroe’s ‘Happy Birthday, Mr. President' dress - and the fashion moment remains the talk of the town.

‘The Kardashians’ star has been accused of damaging the iconic dress despite only wearing it from the bottom of the Met Gala steps to the top.

Kim changed into a replica for the rest of the evening.

Visitors to the ‘Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!’ museum in Hollywood shared pictures and videos of what they say the dress looked like before and after Kim wore it.

“Look at the damage caused by KK. Irreversible. Marilyn Monroe’s 1961 gown has multiple tatters now,” Instagram user Darrell Rooney wrote.

‘The Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah says Kim took a big risk and it backfired when she decided to wear the iconic dress.

However, the South African comedian blamed Ripley’s for the alleged damage caused to the one-of-a-kind piece of American history.

“Ripley’s still deserves most of the blame as they own the dress and in charge of preserving it. So, if they told her it was okay to wear it, that’s on them,” he said on his show, according to Yahoo.

Trevor questioned why Kim had to wear the dress in the first place.

“The Met Gala happens every year. People dress like hamburgers there. You could have worn anything else. If you are entrusted with a piece of American history, you better do everything you can to take care of it.”

Meanwhile, Kim denied damaging the dress in an interview with Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie on the ‘Today’ show.

She says she had the utmost respect for the dress and only had the dress on for four minutes.

“It was such a process. I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers and I put the dress on at the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs … I probably had it on for three minutes, four minutes, and then I changed at the top of the stairs,” she said.

The 41-year-old also denied claims that the dress was ruined at the Met Gala.

“No … Ripley’s [and I] worked together so well. There were handlers and gloves that put it on me.”
