Solange Knowles announced as the first black woman to compose music for NYC Ballet

Solange Knowles has made history by becoming the first black woman to compose a commissioned score for NYC Ballet.

Solange has just added another achievement to her vast list of accomplishments.

Not only is she a popstar and choreographer, but she has now added ballet composer to her accolades. 

The New York City Ballet revealed that Solange has been chosen to provide an original score at the Fall Fashion Gala’s 10th anniversary. 

This makes her the first black woman to compose a score for a production.

The event will debut next month on September 28 at Lincoln Center in New York City. 

It will honour Sarah Jessica Parker, who is not only the ballet’s vice chair, but an award-winning actress and TV producer. 

The ballet with be choreographed by Gianna Reisen and the score will be performed by City Ballet Orchestra and other soloists. 

Solange shared the exciting news on Twitter alongside the dates - October 1, 8, 11, and 16. 

"Very excited to announce I’ve composed an original score for the New York City Ballet. Choreography by Gianna Reisen , score performed by the City Ballet Orchestra + soloist from my ensemble," she wrote on Twitter.

Solange has also teased that she is working on a new album. 

"Patiently waiting on your next album like," she wrote on Instagram.
