Colombian singer Shakira is facing new drama over alleged unpaid taxes. Prosecutors in Spain have officially charged the 46-year-old with tax evasion related to her 2018 income.

This is the second time prosecutors have opened a tax fraud case against the star.

Shakira is currently fighting a $13.9-million (currently R267-million) case for allegedly failing to pay taxes in Spain between 2012 and 2014.

According to Sky News, the Grammy Award winner's tax bill for the second case is a hefty $7.1-million (R136-million).

She allegedly failed to declare the $12.5-million profit she made from an advanced payment for a world tour. The tax bill includes other profits as well.

Shakira was reportedly living in Barcelona with her then-husband Gerard Piqué during both tax periods. The couple, who have two children together, announced their divorce in 2022.

Shakira currently lives in Miami, Florida.

Shakira is already facing an eight-year prison term if found guilty in her first tax fraud case.

The 'Waka Waka' hitmaker's team described those charges as "baseless", adding that they are confident she will win the case.

"Shakira has always cooperated and abided by the law, demonstrating impeccable conduct as an individual and a taxpayer, and faithfully following the counsel of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a prestigious and globally recognized tax firm," her team told PEOPLE magazine in July.

The singer has yet to address the new tax fraud claims.
