Social media was shocked to learn about the separation between Shakira and her long-term boyfriend and father of her kids, Gerard Piqué, last year.

The couple announced their separation in June 2022.

According to The Sun, Pique, 35, had been unfaithful to the 'Hips Don't Lie' singer.

In the recent 'BZRP Music Sessions #53', Shakira sang about her former lover.

This comes after Page Six reported that Shakira felt ‘devastated’ over footage of ex Gerard Piqué with his new girlfriend at their family home.

Shakira sang that Gerard didn't deserve her.

“A wolf like me doesn’t have time for novices like you/ I was too much for you, that’s why you’re now with someone more like yourself,” she sang.

Shakira continued by talking about how the football player had left her in a shambles, but that she had since grown stronger.

“You left me the in-laws as my neighbors, media outlets at my door and in debt with the Treasury. You thought you hurt me, but you made me stronger/ Women don’t cry anymore, they cash in.”

After announcing the split, Shakira opened up to Elle Magazine about how badly she was affected.

"I've remained quiet and just tried to process it all. It's hard to talk about it, especially because I'm still going through it, and because I'm in the public eye."

The Queen of Latin Music says the break-up has also been hard on her children.

"I've tried to conceal the situation in front of my kids. I try to do it and to protect them, because that's my number one mission in life. But then they hear things in school from their friends or they come across some disagreeable, unpleasant news online, and it just affects them, you know?"

She added that the break-up felt like a “bad dream” and she was going through the darkest hour of her life.

“But no, it’s real. And what’s also real is the disappointment to see something as sacred and as special as I thought was the relationship I had with my kids’ father and see that turned into something vulgarized and cheapened by the media,” she said.

“And all of this while my dad has been in the ICU and I’ve been fighting on different fronts. Like I said, this is probably the darkest hour of my life."
