Seven breakfast dishes from around the world
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Have you ever wondered what people around the world eat for breakfast?
We take a look at what to expect when visiting some of the world’s most popular destinations.
You can learn a lot about a country simply by how they start their day.
Here’s a look what people in Britain, Australia, Morocco, America, Spain, Hawaii, and Italy have for breakfast.
Breakfast varies from place to place (even in the same country), but here’s a taste of what you can expect.
Full English breakfast
This English tradition is loved, not only by the British, but also by South Africans, the Irish and other parts of the world. Bacon, eggs, baked beans, sausages, and mushrooms are a must for this full breakfast. Don’t forget the toast and hash browns.
Spanish Breakfast
Breakfast in Spain can be as simple as covering bread with some tomato and garlic. The bread is then drizzled with some olive oil and salt to taste. Pan con Tomate is perfect for a light breakfast.
Breakfast in Hawaii
Many locals love to start their day off with a healthy breakfast that consists mostly of fruit. Eggs and rice, as well as spam (a brand of canned pre-cooked meat) are also popular breakfast dishes.
Breakfast in Australia
The Aussies love their vegemite, so you can expect this to be on the many breakfast tables in Australia. It is similar to Marmite (favoured in the UK and SA), and is quite an acquired taste! Australians also apparently love Bushells tea, and a good cup of coffee to start the day.
Italian breakfast
Italians like to keep it simple for breakfast. A caffè latte and bread is sufficient to get them out the door. Fette biscottate (crisp rusk-like bread), rolls, croissants, and cookies are also favourites. The little ones enjoy warm milk or hot chocolate. And here we thought Italians ate pizza for breakfast, lunch and supper – or at least in our dreams.
American Breakfast
The typical American breakfast consists of pancakes and syrup topped with fruit such as blueberries or strawberries. Bacon is also a must. Waffles, cereal, eggs, and in the Southern parts of the US savoury grits (maize) are also popular.
Breakfast in Morocco
A Moroccan breakfast consists of a variety of breads along with jam, chutney, and one of our favourites – cheese!
