Back in the 90s, every kid - and their mama - had jelly shoes or as we called them in South Africa, "Jelly Babies". Gucci is bringing back the childhood trend but it will cost you a whopping R7,500.

Yes, you read right, the luxury Italian brand is selling women's jelly sandals for $490.

Gucci's transparent jelly sandals come in black, white, orange, and purple.

"Recalling playful styles from the '90s, this sandal is presented in orange rubber with a transparent finish. The shoe is distinguished by tonal Double G hardware and the name of the House at the back of the ankle strap, creating a link to the logomania trend that characterized this era," Gucci states on its website.

Stars such as Blake Lively have been spotted wearing their jelly sandals. But for R7,500, most people on social media said it is a hard pass for them.

"Not gucci stealing payless jelly sandals and selling them for over $400. I used to hate these fkn shoes growing up. I would get a callus on my foot. I wanted to fight my momma on the low."

Gucci is likely to be unbothered by the hate. The brand's rubber slide sandals sold like hot cakes in 2021. The shoes, which retail for nearly R6,000, were a major hit with influencers and socialites around the world.

Someone call the fashion police, because this has to be a crime of fashion!
