RIP: Soweto Gospel Choir singer, Sipokazi Nxumalo, dies

Condolences are pouring in for one of Soweto Gospel Choir lead singers, Sipokazi Nxumalo, who passed away on Monday.

Sipokazi Nxumalo, one of the lead singers of the Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir, has died.



The news of her passing was announced by the group on Facebook. 



Nxumalo passed away from cardiac arrest on the 16th August 2021 at her home in Johannesburg, South Africa.



She was born on 24 October 1983.



"Soweto Gospel Choir, family, friends and fans, are saddened by the sudden loss of our own. Sipokazi SK Nxumalo, has gone to be with the Lord. Soweto Gospel Choir sends a hearty condolences to everyone who lived with, loved and shared life with SK. She is already missed and it will be so for a very long time. Rest in memories Sk," reads the FB post.

Nxumalo has been a narrator and lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir for 14 years.


She was affectionately known as “SK”. 


The live stream for SK's memorial service will be held on Thursday 19 Aug at 18h30.


She will be buried on Saturday 21 August at 9am.
