David Beckham's documentary has thrust his alleged affair with Rebecca Loos back into the spotlight.

The English football icon's four-part documentary, 'Beckham', was released on Netflix last week. It shot straight to number on the platform in several countries, including South Africa.

Viewers praised David for being open and honest in the documentary, with many calling it "inspiring".

While the former Manchester United star focuses mostly on the ups and downs of his football career, he briefly addresses the 2004 headlines about his rumoured romance with Rebecca.

Rebecca claimed in an interview with News Of The World that she slept with him towards the end of 2003. She worked as his personal assistant when he moved to Spain to play for Real Madrid.

Both David and his wife, 'Spice Girls' star Victoria Beckham, address the rumours in the documentary. They did not mention Rebecca by name but talked about how the media reports affected their marriage.

“It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage... I don’t know how we got through it in all honesty. Victoria's everything to me. To see her hurt was incredibly difficult. But we’re fighters,” David says in the doccie.

Victoria says it was the "hardest period" for them.

"It felt like the world was against us. And here’s the thing, we were against each other, if I’m being completely honest. Up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad."

Rebecca shared a cryptic post on her Instagram Story this week which is seemingly about the Beckhams' new documentary.

"A part of me wants to continue keeping my head down and getting on with life, the other part of me wants to speak out," she wrote.

The 46-year-old also included a poll that her followers could vote on. "What is your take?" she asked.

The poll options were "speak out" and "keep quiet".  So far, 67% of the people who took part in the poll voted that she should speak out.
