Police do wellness check on Britney Spears after knife video

Britney insists the knives are fake and no one needs to worry or call the police - again!

Britney Spears is asking her fans to "lighten up about the knives" after posting a disturbing video that resulted in police showing up at her door for a wellness check.

The 41-year-old popstar's fans became concerned after she shared a video of herself dancing on Instagram. That in itself is not weird at all because Britney regularly posts dance videos on the platform.

This time, however, the troubled star was dancing with two knives.

"I started playing in the kitchen with knives today!!! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives !!! Halloween is soon," she captioned the video.

Despite her insistence that the knives were fake, they looked very real to her fans.

"Britney Spears is unwell. Posting peculiar videos and in the latest one, dancing with sharp kitchen knives. She needs mental help," one X (Twitter) user wrote.

According to CNN, police officials visited Britney's home in California to conduct a wellness check. An unnamed associate called the Los Angeles Police Department.

The caller, who is reportedly close to the 'Toxic' singer, said they were “genuinely concerned about her wellbeing".

The mental health team referred the case to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

“Some would argue this is her expressing her creative freedom, and some might argue this is dangerous and there’s a safety issue or mental health concern,” a police official told CNN.

A sergeant was sent to the home but was not allowed onto the property. He spoke to Britney's head of security via an intercom who told him the star was not experiencing a mental health crisis nor was she in danger of self-harm.

The star's attorney also called the sergeant to assure him that all was well with the singer.

Brtiney returned to Instagram to share a second video of herself dancing with knives. She stressed once again that the knives were fake.

The 'Oops!… I Did It Again' hitmaker added that her dance video was inspired by Shakira.

"I know I spooked everyone with the last post, but these are fake knives that my team rented from Hand Prop shop in LA. These are not real knives. No one needs to worry or call the police. I’m trying to imitate one of my favorite performers Shakira … a performance I was inspired by !!! Cheers to us bad girls who aren’t afraid to push boundaries and take risks," she wrote.
