Beauty queen Nicole Capper is in a stable condition after being airlifted to hospital during an expedition on Mount Everest.

Nepal emergency officials were called after she suffered from altitude sickness.

"@MrsSA_Official @nicolejcapper is in a stable condition after being airlifted to Kathmandu hospital from Mount Everest Base Camp," Mrs South Africa's official Twitter page posted.

Nicole embarked on the Mount Everest expedition to raise awareness for rare diseases.

Her two-year-old daughter, Tatum, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a genetic lung disease, when she was just six weeks old.

Adventurer Sibusiso Velani joined Nicole on the trip.

"He has summited Everest twice before but this summit he is attempting with no oxygen. So he will be climbing through that death zone with nothing. For me that is very significant because my little girl has cystic fibrosis, which is a genetic lung disease. Every breath we take on that mountain will be for those who can’t breathe, every step we take will be for those who can’t walk,” she told eNCA in an interview last month.

Nicole and her team made it to Base Camp before she fell ill.

She was proud of making it to the camp, and shared her excitement on Instagram.

"EVEREST BASE CAMP. We DID IT!!!!!! As a team. Yesterday we completed the trek to Everest Base Camp. 5364m. It was a dream come true, and I stood there with a team of trekking warriors beside me, and a team of #RareWarriors in my heart. Thank you for being part of this journey. And for being part of my team," she captioned a picture of her team on Tuesday morning.

MOUNTAINS for me are great reminders that we all have something to climb. like my baby girl who is not doing so well today, and now needs more meds. more physio and nebulizing. every single human has a myriad of challenges and issues they must face. we all climb. today I climbed to Khumjung, at 3790m. I also climb other mountains too, like not being at home with my baby girl. and being a little sick myself too. but when I see these mountains i only have to look around me, and I meet these incredible travelers. trekkers. mountaineers. who have climbed them all and lived to tell their tales. so I too may believe that I can climb. Life is about sharing our battles and our victories, healing together, inspiring one another. after all, if someone has summited that beast, then surely, with passion, purpose and determination, I can do the same. #RareHeights @rarediseasessa @tammytaylornailssouthafrica @mrs_south_africa @brayfoil @goproza @thulesa @capturevideo
