Miss South Africa fans react to postponement announcement

Social media users suspect "something weird is going on" following the Miss SA organisation's latest announcement.

Miss South Africa officials' decision to postpone the upcoming ceremony has been met with heavy criticism.

On Monday, organisers announced that the August event will be pushed back to a "later date in 2025" to "ensure greater alignment with international and other global events".

However, pageant fans were confused by the reasoning.

"Which global events?" one asked. Another said: "Are the Global Events in the room with us right now?"

Miss SA withdrew from the Miss Supranational 2025 pageant two months ago.

While the organisation did not elaborate further on the decision, it quashed "fake news" that Miss South Africa 2024 Mia le Roux, and runner-up, Nompumelelo Maduna, had anything to do with it.

Shortly after the announcement, Miss South Africa 2010 Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala announced that she was the new director of Miss Supranational South Africa.

Businesswoman Carol Bouwer took over Miss World South Africa, and winners from her pageant are sent to the international competition.

In their latest statement, Miss SA officials reveal plans to "broaden the reach and impact of the pageant and its contestants".

"The pillars of the organisation will be expanded to include entrepreneurship, job creation, cultural awareness and social cohesion."

Social media users are less than impressed.

"Knew this was happening. Something weird is going on behind the scenes," an Instagram user commented.

Others criticised the organisation for taking too long to share the update, as rumours had already spread.

"We’ve already come across this statement from several other sources, so there’s nothing new being presented here. Frankly, the lack of communication and professionalism is quite concerning and it speaks volumes about the leadership we can expect moving [forward]."

Another Instagram user says fans are still confused about how things will unfold going forward.

"Nothing new here! It’s just heartbreaking to see this organisation we once loved so much not moved by us asking what is happening! We have been asking for an update since forever!"

"You guys don’t care about us supporters, yet we are the very same people who buy tickets and support the Queen every year. A small (anyana) statement a month or two months ago would’ve sufficed!"

X users also had a lot to say about the development.

"I kinda feel bad for the Miss South Africa entries that invested so much into their videos just for the pageant to be so disorganised this year."

Earlier this month, long-serving CEO Stephanie Weil stepped down.

"Ms Weil will be staying on for as long as is required to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership and to ensure that the best interest of the Miss South Africa organisation are served," a statement read.

Hopefully, the beloved pageant doesn't experience any further hiccups.
