Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters visited a children's home in Soweto recently to do some volunteer work, but her good deed has been overshadowed by a pair of medical gloves.

The beauty queen was pictured wearing the gloves while helping out at the soup kitchen and feeding children.

Some Twitter users accused her of trying to avoid contact with the children.

But Miss SA has denied that she did not want to touch the children, and took to Twitter to explain her decision to wear gloves. "All the volunteers on site wore gloves today, because we honestly thought it is the right thing to do while working with food…. It was purely to be as hygienic as possible,” Demi-Leigh said in a video.

Twitter users were not buying her reasoning for wearing gloves.

Some came to Miss SA's defence, and tweeted pictures of Demi-Leigh interacting with the children without gloves.
