Metallica issued a warning this week against fake social media pages that are scamming people using the name of the band.
Fans of heavy metal band Metallica have become the latest victims of online con artists who use celebrity brands to defraud people.
According to a statement released by the band on Tuesday, scammers have been using their new album and upcoming tour to try and scam people.
"In the wake of last week’s exciting news of our new song, new album, and new tour, unfortunately the ugly side of social media made an appearance," read a statement on Metallica's IG page. The defrauders have been using several social media pages to promote Metallica Crypto Giveaways which are not real.
"Many of you have let us know about YouTube channels and live streams, as well as websites, claiming to offer Metallica Crypto giveaways in conjunction with last week’s announcement," states the statement.
"Let’s be as clear as possible. These are scams. They’re being streamed on fake YouTube channels posing to be ours and all pointing to websites that we do not run."
