It's been five years since music icon, David Bowie, passed away and his wife Iman says "there are days that are harder than others".

The Somali-American model tells PEOPLE in its latest issue that she holds onto the memories of how great he was.

"Sometimes I have to remind myself that I had 26 years. So I have that to sustain me," she says.

David Bowie died in January 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was 69. Iman says a few years ago someone referred to the British rock star as her late husband.

"I said 'No, he's not my late husband. He's my husband... I definitely feel his presence, especially when I look out over the glorious sunsets at our home because David loves sunsets. So in that way he is ever-present," she told PEOPLE

Iman and David married in Florence, Italy, in 1992. Their daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones was born in 2000.  Iman also has a daughter named Zulekha Haywood from a previous relationship.

The IMAN Cosmetics founder has launched a fragrance inspired by their love story.

"Scent is such an emotional thing, so when it came to making my first one, it had to be right," she told Vogue magazine.

Iman's 'Love Memoir'  eau de parfum blends notes that remind her of the scents David wore or the places they visited.

"Florence was on my mind so much throughout the process of formulating the fragrance because the sunset upstate reminded me of the times we spent in Tuscany,” she told the publication.
