Thuli Madonsela has a few questions for the fashion police. The former Public Protector faced the wrath of social media after she was pictured wearing an interesting dress to a recent event.

Thuli was spotted taking part in an event for Miss South Africa over the weekend. The 58-year-old is one of the high-profile women who will be judging this year's competition.

The all-female judging panel also includes Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi and award-winning journalist, Devi Sankaree Govender.

Former beauty queens, Rolene Strauss and Suzette van der Merwe, are also judges. Reigning Miss Universe, India's Harnaaz Sandhu, and media personality Thando Thabethe are also on the panel.

While the rest of the judges were praised for their stylish looks, some social media users were less than impressed with Thuli's outfit.

Many said it looked like she was wearing a curtain or bedspread.

"A few “not so kind people” have said my designed and made in Rwanda dress looks like a bedspread or curtain. Do you agree?" she tweeted.

Twitter users admitted that they were not feeling her look but called the harsh criticism unfair.

"It’s not you Mama, it’s the dress. Night Frill," one woman tweeted.

Another user added: "Making personal comments about someone's appearance is possibly one of the most hurtful, unkind things anyone can ever do. Please be kind people! If you have nothing nice to say don't say it! If you are comfortable and feel good in your dress that's all that counts! I love it!"
