Fikile Mbalula on AKA's murder: 'We cannot give up'

The ANC secretary-general hopes AKA's killers "must be found".

Former Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says he misses his "brother" Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes.

The 'Mass Country' rapper was gunned down in February while standing outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.

His close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane was also killed. CCTV Footage shows two armed suspects at the scene. One of the suspects shoots AKA at point-blank range before running off.

No arrests have been made, despite police revealing in a June update that they know who they are looking for.

Fikile took to Twitter on Monday to reflect on AKA's passing.

"I miss my brother AKA Kiernan Forbes this Monday morning," he told his nearly three-million followers.

The ANC secretary-general also shared a picture of a fan wearing a jacket with AKA's face on it.

"His killers must be found we cannot give up on this," he tweeted.

Some social media users were less than impressed with Fikile's comments. Many said they had no faith that AKA's killers will be brought to book.

"Y'all still can't find Senzo Meyiwa's killers though [face with rolling eyes emoji]," one tweep commented.

Another user added: "Campaigning for elections... We see u."

Meanwhile, AKA's daughter Kairo Forbes will celebrate her first birthday without her father in a few days. She turns eight years old on July 8.

AKA's mother, Lynn Forbes, jetted to New York with Kairo last week for an early birthday celebration. Kairo's mother, DJ Zinhle, was originally supposed to join them on the trip but could not board her flight to the Big Apple as she lost her passport in Dubai.

Before the trip, Zinhle revealed that Kairo wants to travel for her special day.

"My sweet girl has decided she wants to travel every year for her birthday as if there’s a birthday allowance that just drops from heaven,” she joked on her Instagram Story.
