Crunchy! Lupita Nyong'o tries Mexican grasshoppers

Last year she ate a piece of fruit covered in ants! So what's a mouthful of grasshoppers to an adventurous foodie like Lupita?

Actress Lupita Nyong'o is taking her food adventures to a whole new level. The 40-year-old is currently on holiday in Jalisco, Mexico.

When she's not taking in the beautiful sights, she's trying out the local cuisine. Instead of trying foods like gorditas, tamales, or chicken empanadas, Lupita's is reaching for guacamole with a side of grasshoppers.

"Last summer I ate ants! This summer I ate grasshoppers!" she captioned a video she shared on both TikTok and Instagram.

Before taking a bite of her interesting meal, Lupita noted that she expected it to be "too crunchy".

"There it is! Oh my God, it's going to be crunchy... it's going to be very crunchy.

Her final verdict? "Yeah, that tastes about right," she said. We're not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing!

Some of Lupita's followers said they too have eaten grasshoppers and they taste like chips. One follower pointed out that many people are probably eating insects and have no idea.

"People in the comments saying yuck but blissfully eat FDA approved foods that have a legal level of insect parts, roach 🪳parts, rat parts & fecal matter in most of their food already unbeknownst to them. And they care not to do the research. It’s public knowledge," the Instagram user commented

Lupita caused a stir in July 2022 when she ate fruit with a sprinkling of, uhm, ants. The interesting combination was on the menu at an Audi event she attended in Los Angeles.

"It's really good, it's not even crunchy or anything," she said after eating a mouthful of the fruit and ants.

The 'Black Panther' star joked that people can now call her Ant-Woman. She washed down the ants with a glass of champagne.
