Watch: Charlize Theron is back as Andy in 'The Old Guard 2'
The sequel to Charlize Theron's highly anticipated Netflix movie is finally here.
Netflix has released an action-packed trailer for Charlize Theron's new movie, 'The Old Guard 2'.
The first instalment debuted on Netflix in 2020 and became an instant hit with viewers.
In the first month of its release, more than 78 million households watched the superhero film.
Theron plays Andromache of Scythia, also known as Andy.
"A covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with an inability to die have fought to protect the world for centuries. But when their abilities are suddenly exposed, they need to eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate their power," an IMDb synopsis reads.
Andy and her immortal warriors are back in action, ready to keep the world safe.
"With Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) still in exile after his betrayal, and Quynh (Veronica Ngô) out for revenge after escaping her underwater prison, Andy grapples with her newfound mortality as a mysterious threat emerges that could jeopardise everything she’s worked towards for thousands of years," Netflix said.
"Andy, Nile (KiKi Layne), Joe (Marwan Kenzari), Nicky (Luca Marinelli) and James Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) enlist the help of Tuah (Henry Golding), an old friend who may provide the key to unlocking the mystery behind immortal existence."
'Kill Bill: Vol. 1' actress Uma Thurman and Golding, who recently appeared in 'Another Simple Favor', are new additions to the Victoria Mahoney-directed sequel.
"You asked, we listened. The Old Guard 2 coming July 2 to @netflix," Theron captioned an Instagram picture of the movie poster.
Fans of the first film are already raving about the sequel online.
"Man, it's so good to see Uma wielding a sword after 21 years," one wrote on YouTube.
A second user added: "Uma is the perfect nemesis for Charlene. THIS IS GOING TO BE INSANE!"
Social media users are already begging for a third film.
"Finally, Netflix, and don't forget to add a third movie to make this a trilogy. The movie deserves a trilogy; it's a cool concept," one person said.
"Last but not least, Netflix should add a third film to complete this trilogy because it is a great idea," another fan commented.
