Differing party views over KZN voter turnout
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Out of the 5.4 million registered voters in KZN only 3 million voted.
While one political party has partly attributed this to the ANC's lack of service delivery to communities, another has disagreed with this. The DA's Mergan Chetty who is the party's deputy provincial leader says this also has to do with the dissatisfaction amongst the electorate with the way the ANC has run the province.
"In as much as the voters were upset but they should have not stayed away. They should have come to the ballot boxes and punished the ANC for poor service delivery. By stay you, in fact, give that vote to the ANC," he said.
The IFP's Narend Singh disagrees.
"I think it is just general apathy about governance. It cannot be attributed to one political party," he said.
The ANC's Mdumiseni Ntuli agrees with the IFP saying they believe that more people will vote in the next local elections.
"Over the years voting for local governments has not been as equal as voting in national and provincial elections," he said.
