In uLundi near Zululand, tempers flared when ANC national executive committee member Bheki Cele paid a visit to a voting station in the region last night.

Cele was met with jeers and insults by scores of IFP supporters who were gathered outside the Zondela Community Hall, who accused him of being there to rig votes.

One IFP supporter reportedly jumped over a 2m-high fence and tried to charge at Cele.

He was stopped by police.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries - who was dispatched to the region by the ANC - was visiting the voting station to enquire about power cuts in the area which had caused it to be closed 5 times yesterday.

When Cele arrived at the venue the gates were locked, but he was eventually led onto the premises.

He had to be escorted by police after being kicked out by IEC officials shortly before the polls closed.

Cele says the power cuts could have been a ploy to somehow interfere with elections, and he just wanted to see that all was okay inside.
