The party says Maliyakhe Shelembe and Sicelo Mabika refused to cooperate with forensic investigators who have been probing the scandal that saw the NFP missing a crucial payment deadline to the IEC - ahead of the August 3rd municipal elections.

The party was disqualified from contesting the polls.

NFP's Caucus Secretary in Parliament, Munzoor Shaik-Emma says all the structures within the party are subject to the investigation.

"Both honorable Shelembe and Mabika - not accommodating them and refusing to do that - we felt they should not be obstructing any investigation, and as a result thereof we suggested they be suspended. So they are suspended, they are on full-pay in any event; they should not communicate with the staff, conduct  their parliamentary duties, they must not prevent the staff from communicating with the investigators or providing any information," he said.

The party is also looking into allegations of sabotage by its suspended treasurer Xolani Ndlovu, who was responsible for making payment to the IEC - but failed to meet the stipulated deadline.
