DA student union demands meeting with UKZN management
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The Democratic Alliance Student Organisation at UKZN's Westville campus has written an open letter to the Vice Chancellor - requesting a consultative meeting between management and students.
It's in response to recent unrest over fee increments and alleged brutality by police and campus security.
SRC member and DASO Chairperson at UKZN Westville, Siboniso Sibisi, says the issues raised in the open letter are based on an opinion poll conducted with over 100 students last week.
Sibisi says they condemn the violence and they also feel that the response from management has been slow.
"When they do respond it's basically to tell students they've added more security for example. It's stuff that just seems to perpetuate the anger of students. We just feel as if they're not tackling it in the correct manner," he said.
