The CAA's Kabelo Ledwaba says passengers should not carry these devices on-board,
"The CAA has sent out a notice requesting that airlines and other operators ensure that other passengers and crew do not carry their device on-board, whether on their persons, or as check-in or carry-on luggage," he said.
Ledwaba says airlines are also bound by certain regulations.
"Operators are also required to comply with the current regulations on the transportation of dangerous goods, which stipulates that lithium batteries are identified by the manufacturer as being defective or damaged, or that have the potential of producing heat or fire - or simply those that are being returned to the manufacturer for safety reasons - are forbidden from being transported by air," he said.
