Maynard Amerine once said: “Fine wine leaves you with something pleasant. The ordinary wine just leaves.”

Choosing the best wine from a wine list can be difficult, unless you visit a restaurant that offers only the best selection on its list.

Mosaic at The Orient - a South African restaurant based in Pretoria, has been recognised for having the best wine list in the world.

It scooped the award at the World’s Best Wine List Awards 2019. The awards were held at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London.

The restaurant prides itself in having the best and rarest wines from both South Africa and the world.

“Restaurant Mosaic has one of the most comprehensive wine cellars in South Africa, comprising of more than 75 000 bottles of wine under 5 500 different local, as well as international labels,” states the restaurant’s website.

This is not the only international award it has won. In 2018, the restaurant won the 2018 Grand Award from the highly-acclaimed US publication ‘Wine’.

The restaurant also has one of the best chefs in the world. In 2017, Chef Chantel Dartnall, who is the founder of Mosaic at The Orient, was named the World's Best Female Chef at The Best Chef Awards in Warsaw, Poland.
