Recipe: homemade chocolate syrup
Updated | By Anthea Carstens
Ever craved
chocolate syrup with your late-night ice cream treat, but it’s too late to go
to the shops to get some?
We have a super easy recipe for you to make your own chocolate syrup.
You’ll be eating your ice cream drenched in warm, delicious chocolate syrup in just 10 minutes.
Ingredients:
1 cup of water
½ cup of sugar (or xylitol if you’d like to make this a sugar-free treat)
2/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla essence
Pinch of salt
Method:
Bring the water and sugar to the boil in a small saucepan, whisking until the sugar has dissolved.
Add the cocoa and salt, and allow to simmer, while whisking.
When everything is properly combined and a bit thickened, after about 3 minutes, remove from the heat and add the vanilla essence. The sauce will thicken as it cools down. And hey presto, you have a delicious homemade chocolate syrup. Use the syrup to create chocolate milk, milkshakes, on pancakes, cakes, or just on top of ice cream. Yum!
