With the festive season upon us, many will be taking some much-needed time to relax and breathe following a crazy year of trying to juggle life, a family, and a career.

While the 'silly season' may try to consume you, try not to allow it to take over the rest that you've worked so hard for.

With just a few weeks left till the end of yet another year, we decided to look at three ways to help you unwind and get that R&R that you so deserve.

Here are some suggestions on how you can unwind during the festive season.

Visit the beach

One of the most trusted ways to relax in Durban is to visit the beach, and, yes, it will be busy, but it will be oh-so-worth-it. Consider packing a picnic basket, take the family along, and head to your local beach. Make sure you get there early to secure a great spot - the beaches can be pretty busy over the festive season.

Catch up on reading

It's common to start a book during the year and get so busy that you forget about it. Instead of allowing those half-read books to collect dust in your room, why not dust them off, grab a drink of your choice, find a quiet place, and read to your heart's content. Whether it be outside or inside, see what works for you and let your mind get lost in words.

According to Refinery 29, here are the top five best books of 2018:

  • Once Upon a River - Diane Setterfield
  • Those Who Knew - Idra Novey
  • Nine Perfect Strangers - Liane Moriarty
  • The Kinship of Secrets - Eugenia Kim
  • Becoming - Michelle Obama

Take a day trip to the spa

Sometimes a day out at a tranquil spa does the world of good. Not only is a spa day beneficial to your heart, but it also helps you to relax and let all the tension flow out of your body - not to mention that you would be made to feel like a Queen (or King) for the day.
