A Twitter user, Nina Green, has shared photos of her son attending prom in a dress.

The proud mother says it's been her son's dream to wear a gown to prom.

"At age 12 my son announced he wanted to go to his school #prom in a gown. Four years later we made it happen," she wrote on Twitter.

She says she is proud of her son being true to himself.

"I’m so incredibly #proud of him for being true to himself," she wrote.

Society can be very unwelcoming of people who choose to do things that are outside the norm. But, the mother says she is happy that even the school her son goes to gave him support.

"The reception he got from his whole school was incredible."

She says the gown was made by her friend.

Most of the people on Twitter commended the mother for supporting her son.

"I worry for my son, he would really love to do something like this at prom but he would definitely not have the support of all the students! So sad that we still have homophobia even now. Well done to you, your son and his school!," another parent wrote.

Another parent wrote: "My boy did too couldn’t be prouder , he’s also at London Pride today aged 16 it’s fabulous love and to you and yours," she wrote.
