Love Your Pet Day: ECR presenters share pictures of their fur babies

Today is a special day for man’s best friend. February 20 is Love Your Pet Day.

Whether you are a cat lover or a dog person, today is the day to show your animal companions some extra love.

They might drive their owners nuts sometimes, but there is no doubt that they are a special part of the family.

Damon Beard

Meet Damon Beard’s “old man” Mojo. “When I got him, he could literally fit into the palm of my one hand. He was absolutely tiny,” says Damon. Mojo loves cuddles and sleeping with his “dad”. “He’s now 16 years old, a bit hard of hearing and his sight is not so great – but as long as he’s sleeping or lying next to me, he’s happy.”

Erin D

Erin D’s spirit animal is her dog Harley, whom she affectionately calls Bugsy as well.  Bugsy loves greeting her “mom” with big smiles after a long day at work.

“This ball of fluff is my absolute sunshine! She knows exactly how I am feeling and generally makes things alright by jumping on my lap and trying to plant me with a loving lick to the face! She is the most beautifully spirited animal I have ever met. She quite literally smiles at me when I come home. These smiles are generally the star of my insta stories,” says Erin.

Bugsy is also a good babysitter.

“When my four- month-old godson is over and I am on babysitting duty, she goes mad at the door before I even know they have arrived, and lays with her head on one of the pillows I have propped him on and will not leave his side. If he stirs, she comes to call me. She has now affectionately been dubbed "GodDog" to little Carter,” she says.

Erin added that it’s quite difficult to put into words how much she loves her “sweet girl”.

 “She is a constant source of happiness in my life and she always makes me feel so adored!! I can’t imagine life without her!”

Deon Govender

Deon Govender has always been a dog lover, but it was the Easter Bunny (kind of) who won him over.  

“Years ago, while shopping for [a dog], I met a curious bunny who stole my heart. He had such personality and behaved like a dog. I even have an Instagram account in honor of him with all the pics I took over six years of his life.”

Sadly, Benji Frankies passed away a year ago, but he still holds a special place in Deon’s heart to this day. Love Your Pet Day is a reminder why we need to constantly shower them with affection.

“My motto, cherish and love your pet and create memories that will live forever,” he says.

Benji’s memory lives on in the Instagram account Deon created for him.
