Your hair is your crowning glory. Like any other part of your body, it is important to take care of your hair.

Hair health is especially important during the summer holidays as it tends to get drier due to the heat.

Below are six tips to ensure you can enjoy healthy hair.

Moisturise your hair

Hairdresser Sarah Ramalobela says one of the best things you can do for your hair is to moisturise it daily.

She says moisturiser is like food for the hair.

Base your scalp

Apart from moisturising your hair, you also need to base your scalp.

Sarah says this should be done at least twice a week.

The hairdresser says basing your scalp with hair food will help feed the growing hair.

It also helps avoid your scalp from drying out which can cause dandruff.

Avoid blow drying your hair often

Although hair drying your hair can help it to dry quickly, Sarah says exposing your hair to regular heat that comes from the dryer can damage it.

Don't use your straightener often

Just like a hairdryer, a hair straightener also releases heat.

Regularly straightening your hair exposes it to heat which can damage it.

Treat your hair twice a month

Treating your hair is one of the best things you can do for your hair.

Sarah says it promotes growth.

Not only will your hair grow, but treating it also serves as an anti breakage technique.

Thirdly, it adds volume to the hair.

Wash your relaxed hair twice a month

Sarah says it is not necessary to wash your hair every day. She recommends washing it once every two weeks. This will also help you avoid having to blow dry it often.

Cut split ends

Sarah says split ends can cause hair to become entangled.

“Cutting ends helps the hair grow,” says Sarah.
