The start of the Easter long weekend is just hours away.

With schools on holiday and most offices closed for the weekend, you will need to find some exciting ways to keep your family entertained over the next four days.

From Easter egg hunts to family picnics, the options are endless.

Here's what you can get up to in and around the Durban area this weekend: 

The Easter Eggsplore

Durban Botanic Gardens is playing host to an epic "Easter Egg Trail".  The Easter Bunny has hidden giant eggs all over the garden, and kids will also get a chance to meet the man... uhm, bunny himself.  There are also a host of other activities planned for April 15 and 16, including a Sticky Fingers Easter cupcake decorating stand, Carnival games, and face painting. Tickets are R45pp (1-3),  R95pp (4-14), and R40 for older teens and adults. A portion of the proceeds will be given to Durban Botanic Gardens Trust to fund conservation. Durban Picnic Day

One of the year's most epic picnic days is taking place during the Easter long weekend. Durban Picnic Day, which is taking place on Sunday, April 16, is a family friendly event. It has lots of music and fun on offer, with some of South Africa's biggest stars descending on Moses Mabhida's People's Park  for the event. The line-up includes Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, Riky Rick, Kid X, and Crazy White Boy. Easter Craft and Food Market

The Easter Craft and Food Market is taking place at 22 Rockview Road, Amanzimtoti on Saturday, April 15. There's food and fun for the whole family, including a photo booth and Easter egg hunt. The market is open from 9am to 2pm.

Splashy Fen Festival

If your family loves music then the 2017 Splashy Fen Music Festival in Underberg, Southern Drakensburg is just for you. The event kicks off on Thursday, April 13,  and ends Sunday, April 16. There's a daily "Kid Zone" inside the Tree House Stage Arena, with interactive activities for the little ones. And of course, lots and lots of good music. You can get your tickets here.

Watch "The Shack"

William P. Young's bestseller is coming to a big screen near you in April, and you could be one of the first people to see it. Nu Metro and Ster-Kinekor are holding a limited screening of the movie throughout South Africa this Easter long weekend. Durban moviegoers can watch the film at Pavilion shopping centre's Nu Metro theatre at 2pm, 5pm, and 8pm on  Saturday, April 15. The film stars Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer,  and Tim Mcgraw. It tells the story of Mack Phillips, a man who spirals into a deep depression after a family tragedy.  He starts to question his faith, and ends up at an an abandoned shack after receiving a mysterious letter. The movie's official South African release date is set for April 26.
